Experienced Careers Application, interview and selection process - Ernst & Young - Australia

Application, interview and selection process

Click on a topic below to help you prepare for your interview effectively:

Search for opportunities

Visit “Job search” to look for opportunities in Advisory, Assurance, Tax, Transactions or Core Business Services (our internal infrastructure team). Jobs are listed by service line as well as location, and you’ll find more detailed information about specific requirements in the job descriptions.

Apply online

You should allow approximately 15 minutes to complete the candidate profile and application form. You’ll be able to save the application along the way and return to it if necessary. To apply for more than one position, or to work in more than one location, you'll have to complete an application form for each. We’ll let you know when we receive your information and may give you a call to discuss your application in more detail. If your application meets our requirements, we’ll invite you in for an interview.

Prepare for the interview

Prepare to talk about yourself, relevant work experience, and your point of view on current market trends and sector developments. We want to get to know you as an individual and discover your strengths and attributes. Interviews are for both of us to assess if you’re likely to succeed at Ernst & Young, so be prepared to interview us about the scope of the role, our expectations and our vision for how we could work together.

Complete the assessment process

The exact structure and content will depend on the service line and role to which you apply, as different roles need different skills but could include the following:

Interview - either face-to-face, over the phone or via teleconference. Each interview would normally last about an hour - if it's going to last more than that we'll tell you in advance. We want to try and find out about you so we'll ask you a lot of questions about your background. It's a good idea to familiarise yourself with your CV. Be prepared to share specific examples of your work with us. It's also really important that you ask questions of us - you need to know at the end of the interview that Ernst & Young is the right employer for you and your career.

Case studies - we may either give you a case study to prepare in advance or may invite you in and provide you with the case study information. This assessment technique is used quite frequently in Advisory. Case studies provide us with great insight in relation to your analytical and commercial skills.

Psychometric assessment - we split this into two categories

Ability testing - We use them to measure your mental reasoning ability, most commonly your numerical, verbal, comprehension, and abstract or spatial reasoning skills.

Personality questionnaires - The typical format is preferential questions (where you select from a series of choices). There are no right or wrong responses, just individual answers which psychologists use to develop a profile of you.

We will let you know what to expect before you come in and meet us. We'd encourage you to review our website and familiarise yourself with Ernst & Young before you come in to see us.

Review our offer

If you’re successful throughout the interview and selection process, we’ll make you a formal offer in writing. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions and, if you’re happy with the offer, we look forward to receiving your confirmation and welcoming you on board.

Prepare to join

You’ll find a large community of people at Ernst & Young ready to welcome you. When you accept a role with us, we'll give you access to an online portal that will provide you with additional information on Ernst & Young. You'll find useful hints and tips to help you navigate your way around the firm and explore how you can build a great career with us. After an initial induction on your first day, you’ll have opportunities to network with your peers and to participate in ongoing orientation programs suited to your level of experience.
