Careers Students Developing your career Managing your performance - Ernst & Young - Australia

Managing your performance

You want a clear sense of what is expected of you, how you’re doing and how you contribute to our business goals.

Our performance management and development process (PMDP) – an integral part of our EYU framework – aligns your individual objectives and development plan to those of the business. The process consists of annual goal-setting and six-monthly reviews, which give you the opportunity to discuss your progress with your line manager and update your development plan. As a result, we’ll make sure you have the experiences, learning and coaching you need to perform your role successfully.

You’ll be given a personalised scorecard that specifies your objectives in areas such as people, quality, growth and operations. This will form the focus of your review meetings.

In addition to the six-monthly PMDP meetings, we encourage you to talk to your counsellor (usually your manager) on a regular basis to raise any concerns or to clarify any performance issues.

One of the most important relationships you'll have at work will be with your counsellor. It's your counsellor who'll coach you, and help you not only identify your personal and professional development aspirations but also plan the learning and client work you'll need to undertake to achieve them.

Feedback goes two ways, and from time to time you'll be asked to provide input on your managers and colleagues so they're aware of their strengths and any areas for development.

Of course, how you perform at work is also tied to how you're rewarded. With the performance management & development process, you'll have a good idea of how you're tracking and what you can expect in terms of compensation and promotion.
