Ernst & Young Cycling Day 2011 with Cadel Evans
Sunday, 13 November 2011— More than 80 business leaders and Ernst & Young people will cycle from Elwood to Mornington, led by Tour De France 2011 winner Cadel Evans and Australian cycling champion Shane Kelly, in the second annual Ernst & Young Cycling Day.
Cadel, Shane and the cyclists will follow a coastal route and be greeted at the finishing line by up to 170 family members and colleagues at the Morning Star Estate in Mornington.
Ernst & Young Melbourne Managing Partner, Annette Kimmitt said she looked forward to an enjoyable day with Ernst & Young clients and people, including those that are returning for a second time following the success of last year’s inaugural event.
“We’ve had an overwhelming response to the Cycling Day not only because it’s a great way to spend a Sunday but also because of the unique thrill of riding with a Tour De France winner,” Ms Kimmitt said.
“We’re so pleased to offer people this one-of-a-kind opportunity to ride with Cadel and receive some exclusive cycling tips from a world champion.
Ms Kimmitt said the cycling days were part of the firm’s commitment to leadership and well-being, and our team approach to client relationships.
Cyclists have been participating in indoor and outdoor training sessions with Shane Kelly in the lead up to the ride.
“It’s pleasing to see that more and more people are taking up cycling not only for health and fitness reasons but also for the social aspect of the sport. Especially following Cadel’s historic win at the Tour De France this year,” Ms Kimmitt said.
Funds raised from auction items on the day will be donated to Orygen, one of Ernst & Young’s nominated charities, which provides support services for children and young people with mental illness.
Ms Kimmitt said the Melbourne Cycling Day was the first event in the series and would be followed by events in Brisbane and Sydney later this month and next month. Ernst & Young will consider rotating the cycling days across its national offices next year.
Ernst & Young recently announced a continued relationship with Cadel Evans which will include a broader program of events for our people and our clients over the next three years.
