EY launches Perth ‘Cycle Day’ with Cadel Evans
Monday 12 November 2012 - EY hosted 90 business and government leaders in Perth’s first ‘Cycle Day’ with Cadel Evans, cycling in a loop from North Fremantle through Perth’s city centre and returning to the beach.
Australian Tour De France winner Cadel Evans and sports commentator and cyclist Matt Keenan, led four groups of cyclists on a scenic route from Port beach along the iconic Swan River and through Perth City. The program included a more challenging course for cycling enthusiasts as well as catering for all levels of cycling ability.
EY Perth Office Managing Partner, Mike Anghie said EY decided to bring the event to Perth this year following successful events in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane over the past two years.
“Cyclists experienced the thrill of having Australia’s greatest ever cyclist Cadel Evans help them sharpen their technique and provide support right to the finishing line.
Mr Anghie said the event was part of EY’s continued relationship with Cadel Evans which included a broader program of events for the firm and its clients.
More than 300 family members and colleagues greeted the cyclists at the finishing line and attended the family day. Cadel kindly donated a signed BMC bicycle and cycling kit which were auctioned on the day with funds raised from all auction items donated to Foodbank WA, an organisation which supports the WA community through the supply of quality surplus food to people in need.
Mr Anghie said the EY Cycle Day was designed to give clients and staff the opportunity to meet through a unique event, while spending time with their families.
“With the popularity of cycling continuing to grow exponentially, especially with corporates, we’re pleased to be able to offer such a fantastic experience to our clients and our people.”
The cyclists participated in training sessions, catering for all ability levels, in the weeks leading up to the ride.
“With participants from across all sectors including resources, government and the financial and oil & gas sectors, it was an enjoyable and memorable day,” Mr Anghie said.
The Perth event is the first event to kick-off the 2012 series with Cycle Days also occurring in Melbourne and Sydney in coming weeks.
