EY supports landmark arts event, Francis Bacon: five decades
Thursday 1 November 2012 - EY is adding another high-profile event to its long-standing commitment to the arts, with its principal sponsorship of the upcoming exhibition of the work of Francis Bacon at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
Marking the 20th anniversary of his death, Francis Bacon: five decades will be the first major Australian exhibition of rare works by the master of post-war British art, widely acknowledged as the outstanding figurative painter after Picasso.
The exhibition will include more than 50 rare paintings, with pieces drawn from over 30 private collections as well as Australian and international art institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Tate Britain in London, Pompidou Centre in Paris and the Francis Bacon Estate.
EY Sydney Office Managing Partner Lynn Kraus said, “EY has a proud history of supporting the arts in Australia and we are pleased to be the principal sponsor of the Francis Bacon: five decades exhibition.
“EY is a long-term sponsor of the Art Gallery of NSW and we are delighted to be helping them bring this global event to Sydney.
“We believe it’s important for business to give back to the community. Our ongoing commitment to the arts reflects this, helping to bring important works to a wider audience than might otherwise see them.
“It’s one of the ways we inspire our people, clients and communities to reach their potential,” Ms Kraus said.
Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Curatorial Director Anthony Bond said, “Francis Bacon 1909-1992 was undoubtedly an outstanding master of twentieth century art. His breathtakingly risky use of paint created some of the greatest icons of the century.
“A major Francis Bacon exhibition in Australia is long over-due and the Gallery is pleased to have secured so many key works for this landmark show. An exhibition of this size would not be possible without corporate sponsorship, and we thank EY for their support.”
Francis Bacon: five decades will run from 17 November 2012 to 24 February 2013 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
