The motivation is already instilled in Australian workers, however business leaders can take productivity to new heights.

The Ernst & Young Australian Productivity Pulse™ (the Pulse), the first survey of its kind, indicates that the estimated annual wastage in wages can be valued at about $109 billion.1 

According to the almost 2,500 workers surveyed, people management issues have the biggest influence on productivity.

Four areas for boosting organisational productivity

The Pulse measures the Australian workers’ sentiment around the biggest barriers hindering productivity, and the opportunities available to improve performance across four areas:

  • Fifty-eight per cent of the day is spent on work that directly adds “real value”
  • Twenty-four per cent of the day is spent on networking, personal development and other organisational curricular activities that are important to both individual and business performance
  • A whopping 18% of the day is spent on work that wastes time and effort

 

 

 

The influences of four specific areas on individual productivity

  • Fifty-four per cent of respondents say people management issues have the biggest impact
  • Twenty-three per cent of respondents state organisation structure, design and operating model is a driving influence
  • Fifteen per cent cite innovation and 8% technology
