Soudal is the 'Onderneming van het Jaar 2011'
Brussels, 11 October 2011 – 6:45 PM. Soudal has been elected ‘Onderneming van het Jaar 2011’. This year, Ernst & Young is organising the 17th edition of the ‘Onderneming van het Jaar’-award in partnership with De Tijd and BNP Paribas Fortis. Soudal beat Arseus, Waterleau and the Willy Naessens Group, and tonight received the award from the Prime Minister, Yves Leterme.
Soudal is every inch a Belgian family business that is still under the direction of its founder Vic Swerts after more than 45 years. What began as a regional producer of silicones quickly grew into an international export company of innovative chemical construction specialities both for professional and private users. Soudal sells its products in over 110 countries, across 32 of its own sites, including the internationally strong brands in the construction industry such as Fix ALL®, Silirub®, Soudafoam® and Soudaseal®.
Ernst & Young launched the ‘Onderneming van het Jaar’-award in 1995 to reward successful Belgian businesses for excellent performance. The award puts both large enterprises and smaller family businesses in the limelight that stand out through their growth and sense of innovation, entrepreneurship, strategy, persistence and good governance.
“Today the ‘Onderneming van het Jaar’ presents four remarkable companies that not only prove that their entrepreneurship has borne fruit through their financial figures but also due to a bold vision, corporate management, internationalisation and committed teamwork. Companies that continue to perform in the current financial climate more than ever deserve our support and congratulations,” says Rudi Braes, Managing Partner Ernst & Young Belgium.
Soudal joins the impressive list of winners from previous years, beside Taminco (2010), Studio 100 (2009), Cartamundi (2008), Groep H. Essers (2007), Metris (2006), Option (2005), Deceuninck (2004), Miko (2003), Omega Pharma (2002), Resilux (2001), Melexis (2000), Sioen Industries (1999), Compex (1998), Icos Vision Systems (1997), ECA (1996) and Real Software (1995).
Rigorous selection to choose the finalists
To be eligible for the ‘Onderneming van het Jaar’-award, candidate companies must meet the selection criteria. They are subjected to a quantitative and qualitative assessment as well as screening carried out by Ernst & Young. An independent panel of judges ultimately selects the winner of the ‘Onderneming van het Jaar’-award, after meeting the finalists in person.
The chairman of the judges, Baron Paul Buysse, explains the choice of Soudal: ”The difference between the nominees was especially close this year. Soudal was chosen because the company has testified to sustainable, profitable growth for over a decade. Furthermore the business has constantly worked on future profitable development, both geographically and technologically. Strong teamwork and professional management under the direction of the Founder-Chairman, Vic Swerts, form the foundations for the durability that characterises Soudal.”
