Corporate responsibility — our people make it happen

Trent Henry, Chairman and CEO, Ernst & YoungMaking a difference in our communities is a passion for our people at Ernst & Young. When we help raise funds for a non-profit organization, spend time helping young students complete applications for post-secondary education or work with entrepreneurs around the world to foster environmental sustainability, it not only enriches the lives of those we help, but also the lives of our own people. And it’s clear that this positive difference can be felt throughout an entire community.

We believe it is our corporate responsibility to support the communities in which we live and work. This is why it has become a long-standing tradition for us to contribute — not only financially, but with the time, knowledge and skills our people share as volunteers. This is rooted in our values, and it’s a vital part of how we work each and every day.

In order to make a true impact, we focus our efforts on three key areas: education and mentoring, entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability. Further, we have a special focus on increasing access to post-secondary education — especially for those in low-income and under-represented groups.

Over this past year, our firm supported education and mentoring programs and initiatives through charitable donations and, more importantly, through our volunteers. Ernst & Young volunteers tutor and mentor young Pathways to Education™ students as they complete high school and enter college or university. They speak to students and their parents about completing a post-secondary education and navigating a career at YMCA YOU CAN GO workshops. And they mentor new immigrants through the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council.

In this report, we describe the many ways Ernst & Young has supported our communities this year. I hope this inspires you to take action and get involved in a way that makes an impact in the lives of those in your own community.
