In today’s fast-changing, knowledge-based economy, access to post‑secondary education is a fundamental building block for success.
But for many students, especially those in low-income and under-represented groups, accessing a post-secondary education is out of reach.
We’re proud to help open doors and support the hopes and dreams of Canada’s deserving young people. By increasing access to post-secondary education, we not only help individuals by revealing new possibilities and pathways for them, we also help build more competitive businesses and communities to strengthen our nation as a whole.
Here are just a few of the ways Ernst & Young is inspiring more young Canadians to reach their highest potential.
Signature initiative: Pathways to Education™
We’re proud to be the National Volunteer Partner of Pathways to Education – a program dedicated to helping high-school students from low-income and under-represented groups complete high school and pursue post-secondary education. In addition to financial support, our employees volunteer their time to mentor and tutor students enrolled in Pathways programs in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Kitchener.
Our people are truly inspired by the commitment and impact being made by Pathways and its many aspiring students. This inspiration has made the partnership truly rewarding as our staff work locally to supplement the funding available through this national sponsorship.
This year, we were delighted to express our deep commitment to the Pathways initiative in a new way. In April 2011, our Montreal colleagues hosted a spectacular arts event featuring some of Quebec’s most luminous performers, raising $200,000 locally to support Pathways’ efforts to boost school retention in Quebec.

Founding Corporate Sponsor: CPSAP and the YOU CAN GO program
The YOU CAN GO program helps students from first-generation immigrant, First Nations and low-income backgrounds succeed in high school and set their sights on a post-secondary education.
The program is run by the YMCA-led Canadian Post-Secondary Access Partnership (CPSAP) – a cross-Canada network of YMCAs, secondary schools, post-secondary institutions, community groups, employers and friends who work to help more young Canadians find their way to higher education.
We’re the proud Founding Corporate Sponsor of CPSAP and the National Volunteer Partner of the YOU CAN GO program. Committed Ernst & Young employees in Toronto, Vancouver and St. John’s are frequent mentors to students, while our firm’s leaders volunteer their time to speak and inspire at YOU CAN GO workshops in high schools throughout those provinces.
Supporting higher education: Ernst & Young Matching Gifts Program
We continue to support student success in Canada’s leading post-secondary institutions and encourage our people to do the same by matching any and all donations they make to their alma maters. In 2010, the program raised a whopping $685,000!
As well, we have continued providing corporate support to selected university and college fundraising campaigns and scholarship drives across the country. By doing this, we help our best post‑secondary institutions continue to be in a position to welcome deserving students regardless of their financial circumstances.
