Apply within: Harnessing the power of diversity key to growth locally and globally
(Toronto, 12 March 2013) Companies seeking growth in both local and global markets need to leverage the not-so-“secret weapon” of diversity in their business strategies, says EY, recently named one of Canada’s 2013 Best Employers for New Canadians.

Aligning talent management strategies with overall business growth strategy is emerging as an important factor in achieving global success, according to executives polled for the recent EY survey, Growing pains: Companies in rapid-growth markets face talent challenges as they expand. Nearly half of the worldwide respondents said that talent management is the second most challenging function to direct in a global economy, citing the management team’s lack of awareness of local cultures and experience outside their home country as barriers to success.
“Talent management has never been more important to overall business growth strategy, especially in a global economy that’s far from homogenous,” says Steve Shea, Managing Partner, People at EY. “By integrating the principles of diversity and inclusiveness into our core processes – from succession planning to client service to business development – we attract, retain and develop top talent, and that includes tapping into the rich potential of those individuals who are new to Canada. 2013 marks the third time in five years that EY has been honoured with Best Employers for New Canadians award which recognizes employers with the best initiatives and programs to assist recent immigrants and foreign-trained professionals in Canada. The firm has been cited for its mentoring and coaching initiatives designed to make the transition to life in Canada easier for new-immigrant hires; support for reciprocity examinations that assist employees with foreign credentials to pursue their Canadian CA designation; and extensive communications skills support to help newcomers build proficiency in both language and cultural interaction. The distinction follows closely on its recent sixth-consecutive honour as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers, affirming the firm’s focus on cultivating a people-first environment.
