EY named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers seventh year in a row
(Toronto, 10 February 2014) Fostering diverse teams is critical to long-term success in today’s fast-evolving, increasingly global world, says EY. Today, the firm — celebrating its 150th anniversary in Canada this year — was named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for the seventh year in a row.
“Inclusiveness is about tapping into all the perspectives, experiences, lifestyles and cultures we collectively possess to achieve success,” says Stephen Shea, EY’s Managing Partner, Talent, in Canada. “Leaders, especially, have a responsibility to set the tone at the top to inspire and exemplify the workplace culture they want to cultivate.”
A report EY recently released in conjunction with RBC — Outsmarting our brains: Overcoming hidden biases to harness diversity’s true potential — points out that when leaders empower the individual strengths, talents and unique perspectives of every person on a team, they build deeper relationships, drive better decisions and achieve more meaningful results.
“A culture of diversity and inclusion has certainly propelled us to where we are today,” says Shea. “And each of us plays a part in weaving that mindset into the fabric of the workplace.”
