Canadians’ longer-term view

In February 2013, we conducted a short online survey among Canadian Capital Confidence Barometer readers. Consistent with the primary survey conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), 54% of our online survey respondents reiterated that they saw their business expanding in the next 12 months. However, those numbers jumped to 75% when looking ahead 24 months, and 88% in the next three years.

For those companies expecting expansion, 83% expected it to come from existing markets. Fifty-four percent indicated new markets, and 31% said growth would come from each of R&D and innovation, and efficiencies. Once again, this ties back to the overall Capital Confidence Barometer survey that indicated confidence in the economy is improving, but that there is still caution about investing in new, particularly emerging, markets.

If you expect your business to expand, please indicate how this growth will be achieved.
