Understanding the requirements of the energy utilities and waste management

The Ernst & Young Utilities industrial group in Switzerland is the competence centre for the Swiss:

  • electricity industry (production, trading, transmission, distribution)
  • utilities industry (electricity, natural gas, water) and
  • waste management industry (waste materials and liquids)

European energy markets have undergone considerable changes in recent years, thanks to liberalization, deregulation and the evolving demands of environmental protection. Further adjustments to the market environment are also likely, which will directly affect Swiss energy companies. They need to prepare for this new situation and further develop or even realign their business models. In particular, this involves increasing efficiency in order to lower costs and developing new strategic alliances and cooperations to exploit potential sources of growth.

The Utilities competence centre is committed to providing support to clients from the energy sector as well as further developing services in these changing markets. Our multidisciplinary team comprises experienced specialists with sound industry knowledge. Our core competences are auditing, tax and legal advice, advisory services and transaction advisory services. Our work in the utilities sector and our commitment to this industry is reflected in our annual «Befragung von Energieversorgungsunternehmen in der Schweiz» (PDF, 410 kB) , which we have published for the past three years. In addition, together with the Ernst & Young Global Utilities Center, we provide our global network of proven specialists with a platform that they can use to help them offer seamless, standardized and top-quality services.

Lessons from change: power and utilities

How do you manage through the recession and position your company for growth? Our power and utilities professionals and other sector leaders conducted over 1500 client meetings and identified some overarching themes.
