Forensic Technology & Discovery Services

Complex disputes and investigations in the run-up to a business court case often involve countless electronic documents. The organizations involved have to locate, collect and analyze the relevant data.

Our highly skilled people in more than 53 countries help you keep track of risks and costs when the worse comes to the worst.

Our services:

Computer Forensics

We offer digital evidence services, identifying relevant sources of data, collecting all evidence and creating copies so that electronic data can be used in litigation.

If necessary, we can reconstruct deleted data such as partitions, files, e-mail messages or data fragments using court-accepted forensic tools. In a computer forensic analysis we can also search for keywords across multiple databases. But there's more to it than that:

  • We can extract and clean data from mailboxes
  • open password-protected documents
  • identify users and last log-ins
  • analyze (altered) system files, the internet cache and history
  • reconstruct websites
  • detect software, malware and hidden files
  • evaluate logs to document manipulation
  • extract all file formats (office or CAD documents, photographs, videos, etc.)
  • identify previously connected USB devices or external storage devices

eDiscovery Services

New US legislation imposes tough penalties on companies that fail to respond quickly to court orders requiring them to preserve or restore relevant data for the opposing party. Action even has to be taken in the event of an inadvertent violation or when an order is likely. And in our increasingly globalized world, more and more Swiss organizations are affected.

Ernst & Young’s eDiscovery services equip you to meet the challenge. We take care of the entire process - from locating relevant sources of data, preserving digital evidence, reconstructing data, forensic analysis and handing the data over to the other party. We have brought together the best technologies in a web-based solution, the Global Electronic File Review (GEFRey) so that you can locate important electronic data, digitalize paper-based information and evaluate both safely. Making sure that you are well prepared for any eventuality.

Forensic Data Analytics

The huge volumes of data in organizations make it hard to detect hidden patterns. With our specialist software we can help you to manage the flood of data and investigate any suspicions. Our professionals possess a broad range of industry and forensic knowledge gathered working in international teams on, for example, FCPA audits and data mining projects. Together, we can track everything down.

Our forensic data mining services can be used in all business areas, industries and for all types of data. We analyze one or more business areas or work for an entire group (e.g. purchasing, materials management, logistics, sales, accounting). If you want, we can concentrate our investigations on selected areas such as accounts payable or receivable, or general ledger entries.

To facilitate fraud detection we have also compiled a comprehensive and regularly updated database of all known criminal profiles. These "red flags” can be fictitious accounts payable, accounts receivable or employees, split payments (smurfing), duplicate voucher numbers or entries made at unusual times.

As mass data analyses on their own are no longer sufficient, we also offer long-term fraud monitoring services, screening your data for known fraud patterns and importing them daily into a management information system - to let you view and examine any suspicious data at any time.
