All winners are chosen by the Independent Judging Panel which consists of well-respected leaders from the community and experts from the business and financial sectors. Among them, there are also previous awards winners. They themselves are being invited as judges due to their respective expertise and commitment to promote entrepreneurialism.

    Mr. Paul Chow was appointed Chief Executive of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) from 1 May 2003 to 15 January 2010. In this capacity, Mr. Chow was also an ex-officio member of the Board of HKEx. Before Mr. Chow joined HKEx, he was the Chief Executive, Asia Pacific ex-Japan Region, of HSBC Asset Management (Hong Kong) Limited for six years from April 1997 to April 2003. From November 1991 to January 1997, Mr. Chow was the Chief Executive of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited and before then, he was the Chief Executive of Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Limited for two years. He was the Vice-Chairman of the World Federation of Exchanges in 2009 and Chairman of its working committee in 2007 and 2008. Currently, Mr. Chow is the Chairman of Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, an Independent Non-executive Director of the Bank of China Limited, a Council Member and Treasurer of the University of Hong Kong and Board Chairman of a charitable organization, Plan International Hong Kong.


Fang Fang

    Mr. Fang joined J.P. Morgan in August 2001 as an investment banker in Hong Kong. He was promoted to Managing Director in 2003 and was appointed co-head of China Investment Banking in 2005 and CEO of J.P. Morgan China in early 2007. In Nov 2009, he was further appointed as Vice Chairman Asia Investment Banking. Mr. Fang and his team have successfully established J.P. Morgan as one of the most respected and influential investment banks in China.

    Prior to J. P. Morgan, Mr. Fang was a Corporate Vice President at Beijing Enterprises Holdings, responsible for finance, legal and corporate communications. He was also seconded for one year as CEO to an affiliated start-up company. Mr. Fang started his career in 1993 with Merrill Lynch as an investment banking associate in New York and subsequently was transferred to its Hong Kong office. In March 2008, Mr. Fang was appointed by the Chinese Central Government, for a term of five years, to the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (“CPPCC”). Currently Fang also serves on CPPCC’s Subcommittee for Social and Legal Affairs. Mr. Fang has a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Tsinghua University, Beijing, and an MBA from Vanderbilt University, USA.

    Mr. Guo Guangchang is the Chairman of Fosun Group, a renowned Chinese investment company. Mr. Guo is the Member of the Eleventh National People’s Congress, Member of Standing Committee of All-China Federation Of Industry and Commerce, and Member of Shanghai Government Policy-Making Expert Advisory Board. Mr. Guo has received numerous accolades throughout the years.

    He is one of the winners of “Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2006 China”, received the “Award of Outstanding Contribution” from Guangcai Program in 2009, the “Outstanding Entrepreneur on Staff Caring in Private Sector” in 2005, “CCTV People of Financial Year 2004”, “Top Ten Leaders in Future Economy of China” in 2003 and “Outstanding Private Entrepreneur of China” in 1995. Mr. Guo received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1989 and a master’s degree in business administration in 1999, both from the Fudan University.

    Mr. Liu Yonghao served two terms as a member of CPPCC Standing Committee and the Vice Chairman of All-China Federation Of Industry & Commerce. He is currently the Vice Director of the Economic Committee of CPPCC National Committee, Vice Chairman of China Minsheng Banking Corp., Ltd. and Chairman of New Hope Group Co., Ltd.

    Mr. Liu Yonghao was commended as “Asian Star 2000” by Business Week. He has also received “2004 Asia-Pacific Most Creative Chinese Entrepreneurial Leaders Award” and the title of “Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year – Country Winner, Mainland China Region ”. In 2010, he was elected as one of the 50 emerging market business leaders. He is one of the advocators and promoters of Guangcai Program in China’s poverty alleviation efforts. Successively, he has been awarded the titles of one of “Top Ten Figures in China’s Reform”, “Top Ten Private Entrepreneurs in China”, “China Top Ten Champions in Poverty Alleviation”, “National Model Workers”, “CCTV Economic Figures of the Year”, “CCTV Top Ten Figures Working for the Benefits of Agriculture, Rural Areas and Farmers” and “Top 30 Outstanding Figures in China’s 30 Years of Reform”.

    Mr. Vincent Lo, is the founder and Chairman of the Shui On Group which was established in 1971. Mr. Lo was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star (GBS) in 1998 and appointed Justice of the Peace in 1999 by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). In 1999, he was made an Honorary Citizen of Shanghai. He was named Businessman of the Year at the HK Business Awards in 2001, and won the Director of the Year Award from The HK Institute of Directors in 2002 and Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in 2005. Mr. Lo was honoured with the “Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2009” in the China Real Estate Category, and also chosen as the “Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2009 China” country award winner. In addition to his business capacity, Mr. Lo has been active in community services. He participated in the preparatory works of the establishment of the HKSAR. He currently serves as a Member of The Eleventh National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, HK’s representative to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council, President of Yangtze Council, Economic Adviser of the Chongqing Municipal Government, Honorary Life President of Business and Professionals Federation of HK, among his other positions.


Mary Ma

    Ms. Mary Ma is Chairman of Boyu Capital since 2011. Prior to Boyu, Ms. Ma was the Partner of TPG Capital and co-Chairman of TPG China where she primarily focused on investments in the Greater China region. Before joining TPG, Ms. Ma was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Lenovo Group. Ms. Ma still serves the Lenovo Board as Non-Executive Vice Chairman since 2007. She is also an independent director of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited and Non-Executive Director of Wumart Stores.

    Ms. Ma has been appointed as a member of the Listing Committee of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong since 2009 and nominated for membership of The Hong Kong Institute of Directors since 2000. Ms. Ma worked for The Chinese Academy of Sciences before Lenovo.

    Mr. Hugo Shong has been the Founding General Partner of IDG Capital Partners since 1993, also of IDG-Accel China Growth Fund and IDG-Accel Capital Fund since 2005 and 2008 respectively. In 1993, Mr. Shong assisted IDG’s Founder and Chairman Patrick J. McGovern to establish China’s first technology venture fund with US$20 million. IDG Capital Partners now has a total of US$3.8 billion and RMB 3.5 billion under its management in China.

    Mr. Shong completed the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program in the fall of 1996. He conducted graduate studies at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy 1987-88 and earned his MS degree from Boston University’s College of Communication in 1987. He completed his graduate studies in journalism at the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1986 and received a B.A. degree from Hunan University in 1981. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of Boston University since 2005.

    Mr. Jonathan Zhu is a Managing Director of Bain Capital Asia, LLC. Mr. Zhu has extensive experience in investing and capital markets transactions. Since joining Bain Capital in 2006, Mr. Zhu has led most of Bain Capital’s investments in China. Mr. Zhu is currently the non-executive Chairman of ASIMCO Technologies Limited. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Clear Media Limited; a non-executive director of Gome Electrical Appliances Holding Limited, SinoMedia Holding Limited, Greatview Aseptic Packaging Company Limited, Sunac China Holdings Limited, the shares of which are listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, and a director of Youku.com, listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Before joining Bain Capital in 2006, he was the China Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley Asia Limited.

    Mr. Zhu holds a juris doctor degree from Cornell Law School, an MA degree from Nanjing University, and a BA degree from Zhengzhou University. He is a trustee of Nanjing University and a governor of the Hong Kong Ballet.
