To new frontiers
Entrepreneurs create dynamic businesses that can make a real difference to the lives of people around them. They inject a vibrant optimism into markets, creating jobs, improving communities and growing the economy.
Even when times are tough, often it is entrepreneurs who are the first to start a new business, shift towards a fresh direction or expand into new markets. That is why entrepreneurial achievements are worth celebrating, because entrepreneurs help drive economic success, regardless of whether business conditions are good or bad.
This year we have had the opportunity to meet many leading entrepreneurs as part of our involvement in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year China program. Economic conditions have been challenging, and yet, we have been truly impressed by the quality of the winners we have before us today. The winners represent a diverse range of industries, a sign that China’s economy is at a stage of maturity where it can inspire young and innovative enterprises in an ever widening circle of industries and specialties.
Since 1949, China’s economy has expanded and developed in size and sophistication. The economic reforms have played an important part to this, unleashing the transformative power of the entrepreneurial spirit by empowering ambitious individuals to steer their new ideas, products and services to new frontiers. Theirs is a journey often without maps, with total determination as their main guide, and no guarantee of success. Today, without doubt, they are our winners, and nothing less.
This year, the awards are even more significant, coming in the year of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. We would like to thank everyone involved in the program, and offer our congratulations to the winners for their achievements. We wish them every success in the future.
