Zhou Haijiang

When Mr. Zhou Haijiang, a former college teacher took the reins at Hongdou, it was losing money and was weighted down by heavy debts. Today it has become a multinational group and one of the Top 500 Chinese Enterprises.

Hongdou Group has been ranked second in the list of Top 100 Chinese Garment Enterprises for several years, while the “Hongdou” trademark has been named a Famous Trademark of China. The brand has also won the “Accomplishment Award”, the highest award in Chinese garment industry, for its national garment brands.

Company sales have risen 36% from 2008 to 2010, hitting RMB 28.2 billion in 2010. Its product line has expanded from knitted underwear to include costumes, motor vehicle tyres, real estate and biopharmaceuticals, giving Hongdou Group the 265th place ranking in the Top 500 Chinese Enterprises in 2010.

Mr. Zhou is also focused on public welfare, with donations of RMB 300 million for disaster and poverty relief to date. In April 2010, Hongdou became the first Chinese company to earn the CSC9000T Social Responsibility Management System Certification.

Ren Yuanlin
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group Limited

Mr. Ren Yuanlin began as a worker in a state-owned shipbuilding yard. Today he is a shipping magnate and the leader of his own company. The legendary chairman of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group did it by focusing on his goal to build the best shipbuilding company in China.

Mr. Ren led Yangzijiang to become the first private Chinese company listed in Singapore, with both the size of its IPO and its PE ratio ranking it at the top of all Chinese companies listed there. In 2010, when Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement came into effect, Yangzijiang became the first mainland company to successfully list in Taiwan.

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group is the second largest private shipbuilding company in China in terms of output and technology. It has been listed in “Top 500 Chinese Enterprises” and “Top 500 Chinese Manufacturing Enterprises” for two consecutive years. The company has been maintaining its annual output within the first five places among the top 100 Chinese shipbuilding companies for two consecutive years.

Mr. Ren is also an avid supporter of charity, donating RMB10 million to build schools following the Wen Chuan earthquake and overseeing much of the work himself. He has also personally financed new schools in Kazakhstan.

Richard Liu

Mr. Richard Liu founded a company named Jing Dong in 1998, he started to grow it in e-commerce in 2004 and by 2008 he has developed 360buy.com as the largest B2C e-commerce company in China. During six consecutive years, 360buy.com has more than 200% annual growth rate each year, and in 2010 it became the first domestic online retailer with sales exceeding RMB10 billion.

360buy.com is the largest self-operated B2C online retailer in China and its market share has reached 35.1%, as much as the following nine biggest retailers together.

Mr. Liu insists on “customers first”, which is taken as the business tenet for 360buy.com, putting company scale and profit secondary to the user experience. Through self-developing information system and logistics system, 360buy.com has steadily expanded its products categories and improved service quality, providing consumers with one-stop online shopping experience with affordable and high-quality commodities.

Mr. Liu is enthusiastic in public welfare activity, and he always contributes 60% of his personal income in it.

Mr. Li Chaowang founded his household paper business in 1985. Following 25 years of efforts, he has turned Vinda into one of the top three branded household paper manufacturers in China. Mr. Li’s strong brand awareness and courage to initiate have brought Vinda its success. Under his dedication and leadership, Vinda was the first Chinese company using wood pulp as raw material for producing household paper products, changed China’s paper industry trend where products were shipped from the north down to the south. In 1990, he initiated the branding strategy, developed “Vinda” into a household brand which penetrated homes of the masses. Today, Vinda has nationwide coverage with seven production facilities, strategically located utilizing an asterisk(*) shaped production geo-matrix.

Driven by its willingness to innovate, Vinda launched the “Pleasant Goat” and “Kung Fu Panda” cartoon-themed series of household paper, which has been well-received by the consumers. As of current year, Vinda has also expanded into the personal care product segment by launching “Babifit” baby diaper products. This expansion not only broadened Vinda’s business, but also truly achieved its objective of “Healthy lifestyle starts from Vinda.” With Mr. Li’s leadership, Vinda had always performed outstandingly, from 2007 to 2010, its earnings per share compound annual growth rate was approximately 58%. Mr. Li’s core values are professionalism, innovation, integrity and sustainability, and his goal is to establish Vinda as “Consumer’s Number One Brand for Personal Daily Hygiene Product.”



Cleantech Category Winner

Wen Yibo

Mr. Wen Yibo started his business from scratch in 1993. Less than twenty years later, Sound Group is a market leader in the fields of water supply, sewage treatment and solid waste disposal in China.

Mr. Wen incorporated the advance of environmental technology with market adaptability. With his tremendous technological strength, he innovatively introduced the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model to the Chinese water industry. In doing so, he explored a workable business model for Chinese private companies to join in the construction of sizable sewage treatment projects, which changed the market structure in the Chinese water industry and facilitated the development and improvement of relevant policies and regulations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Wen has been improving the industrial chain layout and actively exploring the field of solid waste disposal. Now he is investing to build the world's largest industrial park for the recovery, recycling and reuse of waste.

Mr. Wen is turning Sound Group into a global player in the water supply industry. Sound Group has won big bids for sewage treatment plan upgrade in Saudi Arabia and water supply project in Chittagong of Bengal, demonstrating its international competitiveness as a market leader in China's water sector.

Wang Hung Roger
Golden Eagle International Group

Mr. Wang Hung established Golden Eagle International Group in 1992, focusing on retail, real estate and investment. The company's subsidiary, Golden Eagle Retail Group, is engaged in self-owned properties and operating a department store chain and was successfully listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2006. In 2010, Golden Eagle Retail's sales proceeds surged to RMB 10.95 billion from RMB 4.9 billion in 2007, making it one of the few department store companies with sales proceeds exceeding RMB 10 billion. It also ranked first in market capitalization in 2010 among mainland department store chain groups listed in Hong Kong.

Golden Eagle Retail Group is expanding its chain operations across China with Nanjing and the Yangtze Delta Region serving as the hub. Having been dedicated to innovation and expansion for more than a decade, Golden Eagle has grown into a large department store retailer with 21 stores in 14 cities and 4 provinces across China, with a total floor area of 800,000 square meters.

Mr. Wang spares no effort to actively support and participate in public welfare and disaster relief activities, with a focus on financing special education and helping poverty stricken school children and families. In 2006, he set up Golden Eagle International Charity Foundation, which is the first and largest non-public charity foundation in Jiangsu Province.

Wilson Ip

From a young age, Dr. Wilson Ip was running his own business. In 1991, he opened his first cosmetic shop with a floor space of only 200 sq. ft. and only a few thousand dollars in monthly revenues. Over the last 20 years, Bonjour has grown into a well-known public company in Hong Kong. It went public during the SARS epidemic, but the Bonjour IPO was still 17 times over-subscribed, reflecting the strong recognition of Dr. Ip's capability as an entrepreneur.

In 2000, Dr. Ip established Bonjour Beauty Limited to allow Bonjour to expand through diversification, setting a precedent for one-stop beauty services including medical cosmetology and SPA.

Under the leadership of Dr. Ip, Bonjour was the first to introduce internationally well-known medical cosmetology to Hong Kong, setting off an upsurge of optical cosmetology citywide. Dr. Ip is actively involved in charity activities to help the needy in the society. In 2007, Dr. Ip was granted an honorary doctorate degree in business administration by Sinte Gleska University of California. In the same year he was also awarded the World Outstanding Chinese award.



Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year Category Winner

Yao Gongda
Daqo New Energy Corp.

Having previously served as Vice President at one of the top 500 companies worldwide, Mr. Yao Gongda emerged as the operator of Daqo New Energy Corp. in 2008. Founded in Wanzhou, Chongqing Municipality, Daqo has become one of the largest poly silicon manufacturers in China and leads the way in manufacturing cost effectiveness.

Daqo has three production bases in Chongqing, Jiangsu and Xinjiang Provinces. It is also expanding overseas with branches and subsidiaries in the US and Canada, while its products are marketed globally. Daqo seized the opportunity brought about by the financial turmoil in 2008, growing its sales proceeds by 334% during 2008-2010. Daqo was successfully listed on New York Stock Exchange in 2010.

Mr. Yao holds a doctorate degree in materials science & engineering. Under his leadership, Daqo is dedicated to providing clean energy and making a real contribution to social development and environmental protection in China. It does this by reducing the cost of technology research, development and innovation, while responding proactively to recover, recycle and reuse industrial waste gas and driving down the cost of photovoltaic power.

Mr. Thomas Woo's vision and wisdom allow him to leverage his extensive marketing knowledge for truly spectacular results. In 1996, Mr. Woo with his multicultural experiences and strong merchandizing knowledge was determined to join Mr. Masashi Ishikawa together to set up City Super with a unique business concept completely different from that of the conventional supermarket industry in Hong Kong. Over the past 15 years, City Super's dedication to high quality products and service has earned it a large and loyal customer base.

Mr. Woo has transformed the business from early losses to profit making in a short period of time without any additional financing from the shareholders since their first initial investment. He led the company to hold a dominant market position in Hong Kong. Mr. Woo will continue to build integrity within the industry and take the social responsibility to provide safe and ethically sourced products to the society. Mr. Woo's goal for the next three years is to open stores in mainland China and South East Asia, ensuring that City Super remains an Asian leader.

Mr. Cheng Congwu began exploring mapping and navigation industry in the mid 1990s. By 2002 he had founded AutoNavi Software and becoming a leader in the automobile navigation sector. After eight years of development, AutoNavi Holdings Limited. (AutoNavi) went public on NASDAQ Global Select Market in 2010.

Having established the company as a leading provider of digital map content and navigation and location-based solutions in China, Mr. Cheng has seized the opportunities created by mobile internet to make map and navigation applications available on various mobile operating systems, and growing tremendously.

Mr. Cheng also had the vision to expand the business from a pure B2B model to a combined B2B and B2C for a more successful business model. Under his leadership, AutoNavi has achieved a solid result with 51% year-over-year increase in total revenue and 184% year-over-year growth in net income in the first half of 2011.

Mr. Zhou Hongyi founded Qihoo 360 Technology Co., Ltd. (Qihoo 360) in 2006. In 2009, Qihoo 360 launched the first-of-its-kind, anti-virus software worldwide that is absolutely free. Such innovative business model has evoked an overturning impact to the traditional anti-virus software industry. As of today, Qihoo 360 has become the largest internet security and mobile security company in China and it is also one of the top three internet companies that has the most active users in China. In March 2011, Qihoo 360 was successfully listed on the New York Stock Exchange, its shares has soared and achieved a remarkable increase of 135% over issuance price in the first day of trading.

Mr. Zhou encourages innovation among employees to provide users with the best software products. He often participates in person into research projects together with his research team in order to cultivate innovation and creativity and also to share his experience with his team. Mr. Zhou believes that one of the many ways in which Qihoo 360 can contribute to the society is to create products that provide conveniences to all of its users. Mr. Zhou has actively involved in public welfare activities. In 2008, he was awarded a medal as recognition for his social welfare contribution within the Internet Community.



Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year Category Winner

It was during the 2003 SARS outbreak and economic downturn that Mr. Cheng Cheuk Wing accepted an invitation from Invest Hong Kong to return to his native city from Silicon Valley in the U.S. and found AppoTech.

Mr. Cheng's move displayed his sharp insight. He saw that domestic IC supply was insufficient so he seized the opportunity to provide China with high performance and cost effective ICs. Rather than rely on expensive European and American technologies, AppoTech uses self-developed technology to deliver improved cost effectiveness across Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mainland China. Affordable, high quality products coupled with tailor-made design and after-sales services have helped AppoTech win customer confidence and loyalty, making it a strong competitor less than a decade after its founding. Mr. Cheng will continue developing specialized personnel while remaining dedicated to the self-designed products that make AppoTech a dominant global IC design company.

AppoTech is also a socially responsible company, having set up a charitable foundation to finance poverty stricken school children and disaster relief.



At the awards gala, awards are presented to winners representing various industry categories, including the Emerging Entrepreneur Of The Year, to acknowledge leaders of dynamic and successful companies.

Among the selected winners, the judges will decide on a winner each for the mainland China region and the Hong Kong / Macau region.
