Improving corporate governance in Hong Kong

Independent non-executive directors (INEDs) and company executives attended our seminar to discuss corporate governance and compliance issues in Hong Kong.

As part of our market education and relationship building effort, EY is organizing a series of Boardroom Briefing for INEDs seminars to update the INEDs on the latest rules and regulations.

Over 120 INEDs, executive directors, CFOs and company secretaries from a wide range of industries attended the seminar in Hong Kong in November 2013.

As a result of the tightening requirement on listed companies’ corporate governance in Hong Kong, the roles and responsibilities of INEDs have become increasingly demanding. We tailored the seminar for INEDs to help them meet the challenges.

Participants found the seminar useful as the discussion was relevant to their job and the speakers’ sharing of real life experiences was inspiring. We received a lot of positive feedbacks from the audience. “I like that the speakers are from different sectors and that they are able to share their views from different angles on the subject,” a participant says.

We work closely with INEDs in our engagements with listed companies. By holding seminars of this kind and communicating regularly with them, we can understand their concern and improve the overall market quality.

Speakers of the seminar:

  • Shirley Lau, Partner, Troutman Sanders
  • Bob Partridge, Greater China Leader, Transaction Advisory Services, EY
  • Kelvin Wong, Chairman, The Hong Kong Institute of Directors
