Result of the Hong Kong competition
EY’s Young Tax Professional of the Year is an international tax competition aimed at recognizing and developing outstanding young talents who are interested in tax. The competition also gives participants the chance to share experiences with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Winners of each local competition are subsequently invited to enter an international competition involving the best global talents.
The Hong Kong Young Tax Professional of the Year 2013 competition was held on 31 July 2013.
The winners for Hong Kong were
- 1st prize winner: Zhou Yuhao, John (Hong Kong Polytechnic University)
- 2nd prize winner: Mohamed Tayyeb (City University of Hong Kong)
- 3rd prize winner: Sin Hoi Lam, Helen (Chinese University of Hong Kong)
The other finalists were as follows:

- Luk Hiu Ying, Crystal - Hang Seng Management College
- So Yen Nok, Joanne - Hong Kong Baptist University

The Hong Kong prizes were
- 1st prize:
HK$15,000 in cash, a 6-week paid internship or conditional offer of employment with Ernst & Young, Hong Kong and representing Hong Kong in the international competition (flight and accommodation included).
- 2nd prize:
HK$10,000 in cash, a 6-week paid internship or conditional offer of employment with Ernst & Young, Hong Kong and stand-by participation as Hong Kong’s representative in the international competition.
- 3rd prize:
HK$ 5,000 in cash, and a 6-week paid internship or conditional offer of employment with Ernst & Young, Hong Kong.

Subsequent to winning the Hong Kong competition, Zhou Yuhao, John duly represented Hong Kong at the international competition which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark from 26 to 29 August 2013. There John competed against winners from over 25 countries for the title of "Young Tax Professional of the Year".
Zhou Yuhao, John, the first prize winner of the Hong Kong Young Tax Professional of the Year 2013 represented Hong Kong at the international competition which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark from 26 to 29 August 2013.
During the four-day international final, John worked closely with people from across the world each with different cultures and backgrounds. John and each of the finalists were challenged with case studies and interviews, both individually and as part of a group, before a panel of judges who then selected three finalists for the EY Young Tax Professional of the Year award.
The finalists were invited to a prestigious award ceremony where Mathieu Ferré from France was announced as the ultimate winner. Congratulations to Mathieu!
The international prizes were:
- 1st prize:
A 30-day round-the-world business trip built around 10-day working visits to key EY Area Tax Centers in London, Washington D.C. and Hong Kong enabling the recipient to establish a network of global tax contacts to assist in their future career.
- 2nd prize:
A 10-day visit to one of EY’s Tax Centers providing the recipient with a detailed insight into the operation of a center of tax excellence and the opportunity of interacting with key members of the Center and building contacts with those members.
- 3rd prize:
An invitation to take part in one of EY’s exceptional international client conferences enabling the recipient to interact with some of our finest partners and most valued multi-national clients.
