Ernst & Young launches Entrepreneur Of The Year China 2006

International business awards with a 20 year history
First time in China

31 August 2006, Hong Kong - Ernst & Young today announced the launch of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards (EOY) China 2006. It is the first time Ernst & Young holds the prestigious awards programme in China.

The programme celebrates entrepreneurial success and recognises the benefits that entrepreneurs and their entrepreneurial spirit bring to the economy of China by creating employment opportunities and enhancing the competitiveness of China’s enterprises.

Mr David Sun, Chairman of Ernst & Young China says, “We are fortunate to witness China’s rapid growth and development. More and more Chinese companies are now showing the world the capabilities, leadership, and achievements of their entrepreneurs. The inaugural 2006 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year awards programme in China aims to identify, salute, and reward these great individuals who are laying the foundations of this great transformation. ”

Mr Sun continues, “Our launch of EOY in China also coincides with the authorities’ recent efforts to foster entrepreneurship and groom home-grown entrepreneurs to take on the world market and compete with global companies who have expanded in China since its WTO entry.”

Ernst & Young’s first EOY programme was held in 1986 in the United States. Today, the awards programme has expanded to more than 115 cities in over 35 countries, with awards presented to over 900 of the world’s most successful and innovative entrepreneurs. It is also recognized as one of the most prestigious international business awards, commonly referred to as the “Oscars” for the global business community.

Also speaking at the press conference as the lead sponsor for EOY and showing full support to the program is Mr Nigel Luk, Managing Director of Cartier Greater China. "It gives us immense pleasure - through sponsoring the EOY - to recognize and celebrate true entrepreneurial spirit in China where since the 1990s, Cartier’s development has been going through rapid growth and we have the opportunity to contribute as well as benefit from her rise as a global economic powerhouse." When asked about the reasons why Cartier is sponsoring the program, Mr Luk explains, "in fact, the very foundation of the maison over 150 years ago was also built on entrepreneurial flair and skills: creativity and innovation, dynamism and determination, inspirational and an undying commitment to the finest."

Dr. WK Chan, Senior Director, Business Policy of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the supporting partner of the awards programme adds, “We are honoured to be a supporting organization of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year China 2006. In business, everything starts with an entrepreneur. The entrepreneurs are the ones who are the backbone of Hong Kong and will continue to be a driving force for our future prosperity.”

Dr Elizabeth SC Ching, Director General of The Hong Kong Management Association, the supporting organization of the awards programme, comments, “The Hong Kong Management Association is honoured to be a supporting organization for the Entrepreneur of The Year Awards China 2006. This unique award gives public recognition to successful Chinese entrepreneurs and serves as an exceptional platform to benchmark their achievements with counterparts in China and abroad.
