Ernst & Young’s Young Tax Professional of the Year is an international tax contest which allows successful students interested in tax to test and demonstrate their technical and professional tax skills.
Students from all over the world are urged to attend, ensuring participation from students from a variety of countries. The competition works in two stages.
Stage 1 – National competition
You’ll compete against the best minds in Denmark to become a country finalist. Split into three groups of four, you and your team members will solve a case build around corporate tax, spiced with other relevant tax areas such as Human Capital and Indirect taxes. A jury will find one student who will be announced as national winner. Do well here and you might take the title and become a country finalist, winning a place in the international competition.
Stage 2 – International finale
Taking place in Copenhagen during the 67th Congress of the International Fiscal Association, successful country finalists will work closely with young professionals from other cultures and backgrounds from across the world. You will be challenged with case studies and interviews from the expert panel, who, in the end, will select three finalists. The finalists will be brought to a prestigious award ceremony, where the winner will be announced.
Students who have attended/are attending courses within general tax law, corporate tax law and/or international taxation can benefit from the skills obtained on these courses.
The case will primarily be focused on the tax considerations in a group consisting of Danish as well as foreign companies. You will work with issues that are similar to what our clients experience in their day-to-day life while doing business in Denmark and abroad.
Should you wish to prepare yourself for the case, you can benefit from reading relevant sections in the below books:
If you are comfortable with the preparation criteria, you are good to go. You should focus your energy on 4 April 2013 from 9.00-20:30.
Please note that the competition will be held in English.
What to bring
Aids, such as PC, legal codes, etc. to help prepare the case will be available. You can bring your own PC as well as all materials you find relevant (books, articles etc). Wireless internet is available.
Evaluation
You will be evaluated throughout the day. To become Young Tax Professional of the Year, you will be required to demonstrate not only knowledge and competency, but also your teamwork, group leadership and presentation skills and the most important point, your ability to make prompt and correct decisions.
