About us - Iraq

Iraq is a country in the Middle East sharing borders with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to the south, Jordan to the west, Syria to the northwest, Turkey to the north, and Iran to the east. The capital city, Baghdad, is in the center-east.

As of April 2009, the total Iraqi population is estimated at 31,234,000, and the total area is about 438,317 square km. Seventy-four percent of Iraq's populations are Arabs. Arabic and Kurdish are official languages but English is the most commonly spoken Western language.

Iraq's economy is dominated by the oil sector, which has traditionally provided about 95% of foreign exchange earnings. The local time is GMT+3 hours.

Iraq Office

Ernst & Young established its first Middle East office in Baghdad in 1923. Since then, the firm has demonstrated a consistent commitment to the region and to a presence in Iraq. With over 20 staff, the Baghdad office is fully integrated with Ernst & Young Globally in the Middle East in terms of methodology, training and quality control.
