About us - Libya
Libya is located in North Africa, bordering the Mediterranean Sea to the north between Egypt to the east, Sudan to the southeast, Chad and Niger to the south, and Algeria and Tunisia to the west. With 1.8 million square kilometers, Libya is the fourth largest country in Africa by area. Arabic is the official language in the country, and 97% of the population follows Islam.
The Libyan economy depends primarily upon revenues from the oil sector, which constitute practically all export earnings and about one-quarter of GDP.
Libya is rapidly opening up today and the country is witnessing fast growth and investment in the oil and gas sector as well as in the manufacturing sector, which includes the production of petrochemicals, iron, steel and aluminum, in addition to a growing tourism sector. Privatization of government-owned enterprises and active participation of the leadership in the creation of a healthy environment for private business now characterizes the country’s outlook.
Libya’s climate is mostly dry and desert-like in nature, and local time is GMT+2 hours.
