About us - United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is located on the Arabian Gulf, bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia. Established in 1971, the UAE is a constitutional federation of seven emirates: Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al-Khaimah, Umm Al-Quwain, Ajman, Fujairah and Abu Dhabi – the capital.
The UAE has an open economy with a high per capita income and substantial annual trade surplus. With the discovery of oil in 1958, the country has experienced profound transformation into a modern state with a high standard of living. Today, the government continues to invest on infrastructure expansion, job creation, land reclamation, industries development, oil refinement, and turning the country’s ports into renowned trade centers.
The official UAE language is Arabic, but English is widely spoken and ranks alongside Arabic as the official language of commerce. In addition to UAE nationals, the population includes large numbers of non-UAE Arabs, Iranians, South Asians and other Expatriates, all of whom add to the diversity of the UAE’s cosmopolitan society. The majority of the population is Muslim. The population of the UAE has grown dramatically over the last two decades and stands at over four million today.
Abu Dhabi is both the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the largest of the seven individual emirates that make up the country. Situated on the north east of the Arabian Peninsula, it covers an area of about 67,340 sq. km which is 87% of the country's total. With some 10% of the world's known oil reserves, Abu Dhabi ranks as the richest of the emirates and a global economic powerhouse in its own right.
