We believe that this will go a long way in showcasing the support and commitment of the UAE to promoting entrepreneurship. The country has played an important role by nurturing and creating an environment conducive to growth through very effective public policy.”
The awards aim to celebrate the achievements of entrepreneurs who have demonstrated excellence and extraordinary success in areas such as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and the communities in the UAE.
HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Aviation Authority and Chairman of the Emirates Airline Group, will be presented with the ‘Entrepreneurial Excellence Award’ for his exemplary achievements and support for entrepreneurship.
“According to Ernst & Young’s quarterly Rapid-Growth Markets Forecast, the UAE’s economy is expected to grow by 3.1% in 2012 and to pick up to 4.8% in 2013. With the right impetus, entrepreneurs can capitalize on the improved outlook and focus on innovation and stimulating economic activity. The UAE has a young and fast growing population that necessitates the need for encouraging entrepreneurship that can help create new job opportunities for them,” added Ashraf.
"The program is in-line with the directives of the UAE’s visionary leadership, to support entrepreneurs and SMEs that boost the country’s economy. The awards also aim to promote the capabilities of the UAE’s entrepreneurial talent by providing an opportunity to the winner in representing the country at the World Entrepreneur Of The Year award in June 2012 at Monte Carlo,” said Ashraf.
Nine visionary entrepreneurs were shortlisted as finalists for Ernst & Young’s UAE Entrepreneur Of The Year Award (EOY) this year. The winner will be announced at the gala dinner at the Grand Hyatt in Dubai.
This year marks a quarter of a century since the very first Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards, which took place in a single US city in 1986. Today, the program spans more than 140 cities in 50 countries, which together represent more than 90% of the global economy.
The EOY awards recognize outstanding entrepreneurs for their vision, innovation, courage, and leadership in building and growing successful businesses - businesses that influence the way we live, the products and services we depend on, and the economic vibrancy of our local communities and global markets.
