The year 2011 highlighted the resilience of the oil and gas sector.

The oil and gas industry is one of the most active M&A sectors with an average of more than three transactions every day.

In 2011, more than 1,322 oil and gas transactions were announced, an increase of more than 5% from 2010.

The aggregate value of oil and gas transactions totaled US$317b. The 2011 deal value was about 7% below last year's US$341b, largely as a result of fewer megadeals.

The year 2011 highlighted the resilience of the oil and gas sector. Against an uncertain economic and capital markets background, 2012 promises less but could likely deliver more.
