Dr. Robert Lawrence Kuhn

Dr. Robert Lawrence Kuhn is an international corporate strategist, investment banker, China political and economics analyst, and expert on the China business market. Since 1989, he has worked with China's senior leaders and advised the Chinese government on economic policy, industrial policy, mergers and acquisitions, science and technology, media and culture, Sino-U.S. relations, and a variety of international communications and business matters. In 2012, he advised China Vice President Xi Jinping on his U.S. visit and gave numerous personal commentaries / interviews about Xi, who is slated to become General Secretary of the Communist Party (2012) and President of China (2013).
Dr. Kuhn advises leading multinational companies, CEOs and C-Suite executives, on formulating and implementing China strategies in a variety of sectors, including science and technology, energy and resources, industrial, media and entertainment, healthcare / medical / pharmaceuticals, consumer products, and financial services. He works with major Chinese companies on structuring their capital markets financing and M&A activities. Dr. Kuhn is Senior Advisor to EY (Office of the Chairman).
Dr. Kuhn has more than 30 years of experience in M&A. He was president and co-owner of The Geneva Companies, the largest M&A firm in the US representing middle-market companies (which he sold to Citigroup in 2000). Under his leadership, more than 1,400 M&A transactions were completed, and more than 10,000 company evaluations were conducted.
Dr. Kuhn was profiled in Barron's and was one of only two Americans selected, along with Dr. Henry Kissinger, as "China Visionaries" in the series produced by Shanghai Television (SMG). For the 90th anniversary of China's ruling party (CPC) in 2011, an interview with Dr. Kuhn, requested by China's leaders and organized by China Daily (China's official international newspaper), was featured in major newspapers (New York Times, Washington Post, Intl Herald Tribune, Wall Street Journal), and, most significantly in China, Dr. Kuhn was selected by Oriental Outlook magazine (published by the official Xinhua News Agency) as one of the all-time top-ten influential supporters of China's ruling party / CPC (he is the only one living).
Dr. Kuhn advises and works with China senior leaders on special projects. He is the author of The Man Who Changed China: The Life and Legacy of Jiang Zemin, the first biography of a living Chinese leader ever published in China and China's best-selling book of 2005. He is the author of How China's Leaders Think featuring President Hu Jintao and China's new leaders, including Vice President Xi Jinping. Dr. Kuhn advised then Zhejiang Party Secretary Xi Jinping on his U.S. visit (2006). He wrote exclusive articles with Politburo Member Li Yuanchao on China's political reform and with Politburo Member Wang Yang on transforming Guangdong Province. He is senior advisor to China Central Television (CCTV).
Dr. Kuhn is the author or editor of 25 books on business strategy and finance, including Dow-Jones Irwin's seven-volume Library of Investment Banking and China's Banking and Financial Markets. He is a frequent commentator on China for BBC World News / BBC World Service, CNBC, Bloomberg, Euronews, CCTV, and others. He appears as senior international commentator on CCTV News, which is broadcast worldwide and throughout China. He created, wrote and hosted the official CCTV six-part television series on Expo 2010 Shanghai and the official Shanghai Television five-part production on the 18th National CPC Congress (2012). He writes for Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Forbes and Chief Executive magazine.
Dr. Kuhn received a BA (Phi Beta Kappa) in Human Biology from Johns Hopkins University, a master of science in management from the MIT Sloan School of Management, and a PhD in Anatomy / Brain Research from UCLA.
