London, 18 January 2012: This week the 2011 mergermarket European M&A league tables confirmed EY as the number one provider of accountancy advice on M&A transactions across Europe during 2011.

In a year that saw M&A activity fluctuate significantly, EY advised on 297 M&A transactions across Europe, with an aggregated value of almost $68billion; representing 28% volume and 39% value of all M&A deals with named accountancy advisers.

Joachim Spill, EY’s Transaction Advisory Services leader for Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA) comments: “While many organizations are yet to chart a course through the choppy waters in Europe, some of our clients are looking to take advantage of current instability to drive growth. Overall, we have seen a significant increase in transaction activity over recent months and have won substantial market share despite on-going volatility.”

Dave Murray, EY’s Transaction Advisory Services markets leader for EMEIA adds: “We have seen a change in the mind-set of organizations contemplating transactions during 2011. Clients are increasingly keen to look across their entire Capital Agenda when evaluating transactions. Many are now thinking about synergies and risk at the outset of a deal, rather than just during the valuation and diligence phases.”
