Cyprus and Ukraine complete procedures to bring new treaty into force

On 23 September 2013, the Inland Revenue Department of the Cypriot Ministry of Finance issued its Circular No. 2013/16, announcing that Cyprus and Ukraine have both completed all the procedures required to bring into force the new Double Tax Treaty between the two countries. The Treaty was signed on 8 November 2012.

The Treaty and the Protocol to it will apply to:

  • Taxes withheld at the source for amounts paid on or after 1 January 2014; and
  • Other taxes for taxable years or periods beginning on or after 1 January 2014.

According to the Circular, the USSR-Cyprus Double Tax Treaty signed on 29 October 1982 will no longer be in effect as of 1 January 2014.
