Inaugural survey of electronic evidence in Ireland - 2011

Electronic communications are widespread in business, however they have yet to be included as standard as potential evidence in the resolution of disputes or in regulatory investigations.

Ernst & Young are proud to launch their inaugural survey of the perception and treatment of electronic evidence in the Irish legal process. This ground-breaking research by Ernst & Young led Mr. Justice Frank Clarke to suggest the need for best practice guides to steer the Irish legal community through the electronic element of discovery, to allude to the need for possible rule changes, and to hint at future costs penalties for not considering electronic evidence. Read the results of the 2011 survey here. The intention is to repeat this annually, which will server as a year-on-year barometer as to progress in this area in Ireland.

Forensic Data Analytics

Structured data is everywhere. Your business is sitting on mountain of it. You may have duplicate procurement entries amounting to full percentage points of your total expenditure. You may deal with ghost vendors that exist nowhere other than on your accounts. Your expense controls may be being flouted on a regular basis. There may be chains of payments circling between entities that cost you dearly, yet make others rich. Your well thought out compliance framework may be exposed by those who are simply not following the rules. Making sense of large volumes of structured data is not a simple task. Read more.

eDiscovery

The volume and use of electronic data in businesses is ever expanding. The majority of this data is unstructured (such as emails, word documents and spreadsheets). Managing this data can be challenging, especially in the time constraints required when discovery order is received or a detailed internal investigation is required. Our Forensic Technology & Discovery Services team has the tools and the expertise to extract information of evidentiary value and enable its review quickly and cost-effectively whilst complying with data privacy, confidentiality and other regulatory and legal obligations. Read more.
