Ernst & Young awarded billionaire Adi Godrej entrepreneur of the year 2012, while recently retired Ratan Tata won the lifetime achievement award at the consultancy firm’s annual business awards.
Godrej will now go on to represent India at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Monte Carlo, Monaco, in June 2013. The entrepreneur of the year is the only business award to be based on self-nomination and is also the only global business award programme. It is now in its 14th year in India.
Seven other entrepreneurs also received awards across various categories at a celebratory banquet on Thursday in Mumbai, which was attended by over 500 people. Sachin Pilot, minister of corporate affairs, was the chief guest.
This year’s lifetime achievement award-winner, Ratan Tata, former chairman of the Tata Group, had won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Award in 2003.
Other jury members included Harsh Mariwala of Marico, S Ramadorai of TCS, GV Prasad of Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Sanjay Nayar of KKR India, Shikha Sharma of Axis Bank, Rajiv B Lall of IDFC, Ishaat Hussain of Tata Sons and A Vellayan of Murugappa Group).
