Amar Ujala to buy out stake held by DE Shaw

The promoters of the Amar Ujala group are planning to buy out the 18% stake held by DE Shaw in the publishing company. The PE firm DE Shaw had acquired the stake for INR1.17 billion in 2007. The promoters of the group and the PE firm have mutually agreed to part ways after differences cropped up between them. The former have offered to buy out the stake held by DE Shaw and may later sell it to a new investor.1

Harper Collins ends JV with Living Media

Harper Collins, which was owned by News Corporation, has ended its JV with Living Media India. Harper Collins India (HCI) has now become a wholly owned subsidiary of Harper Collins Worldwide. The company plans to aggressively expand its operations in the Indian market.2
