With the projections around India’s near term growth being modest, it is critical that the Government sends out the right signals for stimulating growth and which are seen to be investor friendly.

The Government having realized the severity of situation, is taking some positive steps to boost investor confidence, including renewed focus on select disinvestment in government companies to control the fiscal situation, opening up of FDI in a few sectors, deferral of GAAR, passage of new Companies Bill in the lower house of the Parliament, etc. The Budget for Financial Year 2013–14 provided an important opportunity for The Union Government of India to extend further the positive message to foreign investors.

His focus industries include construction, energy, infrastructure and real estate.

Avinash leads the Infrastructure and Real Estate direct tax group in Mumbai. He also leads the Private Equity program of Ernst & Young’s Private Equity program, an initiative designed to provide end-to-end solutions to the private equity enterprise.

Partner - Financial Services - Tax & Regulatory Services

Subramaniam Krishnan is a Partner with Ernst & Young’s Financial Services - Tax and Regulatory Services practice, based in Mumbai. He has over 13 years of experience in advising and assisting international financial services industry participants and offshore funds establishing an Indian investment / operational presence.

He has advised on a range of tax and regulatory issues faced by financial services industry participants. He has also assisted in defining and implementing structures for offshore portfolio investment and private equity funds seeking to invest in India.
