Entrepreneur Of The Year Award 2008 for Korea
The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2008 winner for Korea was announced at a ceremony held at the Shilla Seoul on 14 January 2009.
Jae-Chul Kim, 73, Founder and Chairman of Dongwon Group, was praised for developing Dongwon Group as one of the world’s largest fishery companies, while successfully expanding the group’s portfolio into various industries including food processing, distribution, securities and finance.
Chairman Jae-Chul Kim established Dongwon Industries in 1969, aiming to contribute to health and well-being by providing high-quality fishery products. He transformed the marine products company to a major global player and strengthened the firm’s position in the market by acquiring the world’s leading tuna brand StarKist last year.
“The spirit of Dongwon Group symbolizes passion, challenge and creation” said Chairman Kim. “I have put great effort to develop nutritious, value-added food products to promote good health throughout the world. It is a tremendous honor to receive the Entrepreneur Of The Year award, and it will serve as a significant step towards development of our company in the global market.”

On 30 May 2009, Jae-Chul Kim will join the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year country winners from more than 50 countries around the world in Monte Carlo to be inducted into the World Entrepreneur Of The Year Academy and vie for the title of Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year.
By identifying and recognizing the achievements of outstanding entrepreneurs within successful, growing and dynamic businesses, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year awards aims to encourage entrepreneurial activity around the world and profile role models to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs.
