- Alumni members and judges of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) Malaysia programme to play key roles at WEOY 2014
Kuala Lumpur, 16 April 2014 – The highly anticipated EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year (WEOY) returns for the 14th year in Monte Carlo from 4 - 8 June 2014. Top entrepreneurs from 145 cities and 60 countries around the world will compete for this prestigious recognition, including the country winner of EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2013 Malaysia, Dr. Ngau Boon Keat, Executive Chairman of Dialog Group Bhd.
“Dr Ngau is an outstanding entrepreneur and a force of positive economic and social change. He has set new benchmarks, defied the odds, built businesses, created jobs and supported the community at large. We are proud to have Dr Ngau represent Malaysia at this year’s WEOY,” says Philip Rao, Partner and EOY Malaysia Programme Director.
“I am very humbled to have the opportunity to represent Malaysia on a global stage. I will take this opportunity to share my life story and hopefully, it becomes an inspiration to others,” says Dr Ngau Boon Keat.
Also representing Malaysia at this world event in Monte Carlo are Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin, Chairman of Battersea Project Holding Company Limited (country winner of EOY 2011 Malaysia); Tan Sri A K Nathan, Executive Chairman and Group Managing Director of Eversendai Corporation Bhd (country winner of EOY 2008 Malaysia and EOY Malaysia judge); Datuk Dr Rebecca Sta Maria, Secretary General of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (EOY Malaysia judge); and Datuk Tan Say Jim, Managing Director of IRIS Corporation Bhd (Technology EOY 2010 Malaysia).
Says Rao, “The EY World Entrepreneur Of The Year is the only truly global event that convenes and honours the achievements of the world’s best entrepreneurs. Beyond a global celebration of entrepreneurial achievement and providing invaluable networking opportunities, it also offers a full programme to showcase the best in today’s global thinking. We are extremely pleased and proud to announce that these four outstanding Malaysians will be playing key roles in the WEOY 2014 programme.”
Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin has been invited to be on the WEOY 2014 judging panel alongside nine other exceptional entrepreneurs from around the world. This panel of judges will determine who will be named the World Entrepreneur Of The Year 2014.
“I am deeply honoured to be invited as a judge for WEOY 2014 and look forward to representing Malaysia on the judging panel. I understand that there will be 60 country winners vying for the WEOY crown this year and I look forward to meeting with them to learn new ideas, understand different approaches to doing business and how they reach out and connect with their customers. Over the last few years, I have had the privilege of being an entrepreneur not just here but in several other countries, some matured, some just emerging. I trust that the insights I have gained from these experiences will enable me to contribute in a meaningful way as my fellow judges and I seek out that First Among Equals to be named WEOY winner for 2014,” says Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin.
Over the four days, the Malaysian delegation will join business leaders of high-growth, market-leading companies and renowned keynote speakers Sir Alex Ferguson, former manager of Manchester United Football Club; Hamdi Ulukaya, EY WEOY 2013 winner and founder and CEO of Chobani, Inc.; and Professor Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize recipient 2006 and founder of Grameen Bank amongst others, for dynamic and inspiring exchange of ideas.
“We are often asked how Malaysian entrepreneurs can access this global business network with some of the world powerhouses in business. The answer is simple – submit a nomination for the national EOY programme. There is no separate nomination process for WEOY, and participants qualify on the basis of being the current EOY country winner or EOY alumni.
Nominations for the Entrepreneur Of The Year (EOY) 2014 Malaysia Awards programme are now open until 30 May 2014. We strongly encourage our Malaysian entrepreneurs, regardless of their business industry or size, to submit a nomination as the first step on the road to Monte Carlo,” concludes Rao.
