Biotech Update 2011

In the past months the Dutch biotech and pharma sector received strong public attention due to the acquisition of Crucell by pharma giant Johnson & Johnson and the on-going discussion regarding the former Organon site in Oss. Looking at the public markets, the only noteworthy European IPO was carried out by the Danish company Zealand Pharma. Mergers and acquisitions were more dominant, with Shire finalizing its acquisition of Movetis and Cellerix and Tigenix joining forces.

For this year’s Biotech Update, we have invited speakers with different backgrounds to address a range of different topics. Jan-Peter Balkenende, partner at Ernst & Young and former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, will provide his vision on Dutch innovation in a global perspective. Prof. dr. Philip Scheltens, director of the Alzheimer’s Center at the VU Medical Center in Amsterdam, will share his views on this devastating disease and give us an insight in current treatment options and possible future developments. Declan Doogan, CMO of Amarin and former Head of Worldwide Development at Pfizer, will tell his story about moving from a big pharma environment to a small biotech setting and the success story of his current company Amarin. Finally, Ronald Plasterk, member of parliament and former Minister of Education, Culture and Science will moderate the seminar.

LSP and Ernst & Young are pleased to intvite you to our annual Biotech Update. The seminar takes place on Thursday June 30, 2011 at Kasteel de Wittenburg, Wassenaar. The seminar will be followed by an informal drinks reception in the castle garden. All guests will receive the Ernst & Young Global Biotechnology Report
‘Beyond Borders 2011’.

We hope you will join us and we are looking forward welcoming you on June 30.
