Careers in Advisory: helping organizations improve performance and manage risks

The current business climate combines challenge and uncertainty with escalating competition.

Clients are increasingly asking for our advice on how to succeed in these conditions. We work with them to address their specific circumstances and to achieve sustainable improvement in their business performance.

Advisory is our fastest-growing service line, an energetic, fast-paced environment with nearly 20,000 professionals around the world.

Because Advisory is a diverse and fluid business area we are involved in a huge variety of work. This involves delivering wide-ranging and constantly changing ideas to our clients across a broad spectrum of industries and locations.

While at this moment in time we do not recruit associates into our advisory team, after gaining experience in either assurance or tax you will have opportunities to get involved with exciting and challenging projects.

Careers in Assurance: making sure vital business information is accurate and reliable

As the global financial crisis confirmed, there is clear connectivity between the world’s economies.

This means everyone has a vested interest in understanding factors such as risks, investments and values in relation to all economic matters – from individual retirement plans to the financial stability of regions like the Eurozone.

It also makes for a seriously stimulating working environment, where you’ll work across a wide variety of industries with equally varied clients at a high level.

This area is extremely broad, giving you the opportunity to develop a general grounding in business and opening the door to many career paths. When you first start, you’ll develop broad assurance skills across many areas – covering both audit and non-audit work. You can then call on this experience when it becomes time to narrow your focus.

External Audit

External Audit at Ernst & Young plays a huge role in preserving the integrity of the global business landscape. You can provide peace of mind to our clients by using your analytical skills to give companies, investors and regulators confidence in the validity of financial statements, business-critical information or processes.

Your main aim will be to provide independent verification of our clients’ compliance with accounting principles. By doing so, you play an important role in helping businesses accurately reflect their financial picture and, in turn, protecting financial markets.

Careers in Transactions: helping clients buy, sell and merge with other organizations

At a time when the global business environment holds increasingly complex strategic challenges, we know that how organizations manage their capital today affects how competitive they’ll be in the future.

We work with the world’s largest organizations, fastest-growing companies, and private equity firms on some of the biggest and most complex cross-border engagements in the global market.

You will help those clients make better and more informed decisions about how they manage capital and transactions in a changing world. That means advising businesses on how they preserve, optimize, raise and invest their capital to help them achieve their strategic objectives.

Careers in Tax: help your clients navigate the complexities of international tax

Businesses and individuals today are subject to ever-growing and increasingly complex tax and regulatory change. Helping navigate these challenges requires advisors with a deep understanding of relevant legislation, outstanding communication skills and the ability to manage client relationships effectively.

As a tax professional at Ernst & Young, you'll use your research and analytical skills, apply yourself to stay on top of the law and acquire an in-depth knowledge of clients' requirements.

Get on the fast track

Going from campus or school to career can seem daunting. If you want a taste of working life while you’re still a student, we can offer you a number of different options, from a one-week Work Experience Program to a year-long Industrial Placement.

You'll benefit from  experiences, learning and coaching  that will help you achieve your potential and adapt successfully to professional life.

You'll also gain insights into what life at Ernst & Young is really like and have the opportunity to build valuable relationships.

Ernst & Young Industrial Placement

If you’ve chosen a degree that requires a year in industry, or simply want a year’s work experience, this placement can give you 12 months of valuable business know-how.

Working within our Assurance and Tax practice, you’ll be performing a role similar to that of a new graduate. From day one, you’ll be working on real client projects and will contribute to a variety of work across a range of sectors. We suggest you apply early as there’s a large number of people who apply for a limited number of positions.

Ernst & Young Work Experience Program

This intensive program kicks off with two days of training for our Tax or Advisory service line. This will equip you with the basics to participate in a client-facing project team. You’ll then contribute to live projects and gain valuable insights into professional life.

Successful participants are also offered the opportunity to be fast-tracked to an internship in their final year. Placements are limited and competition is high, so apply early.
