Ernst & Young encourages others to Keep Guernsey Green

Ernst & Young is the latest firm to achieve a Keep Guernsey Green Award.

Presented with the eco-friendly accreditation on 4 August by the States of Guernsey’s Environment Department, the professional services firm has completed consultations, reviews and an assessment to gain this acknowledgement.

Achieving the equivalent Eco-Active Business accreditation from the States of Jersey last month, Channel Islands Managing Partner, Andrew Dann, said he was pleased the firm was making steps towards a more eco-friendly working environment.

“Some of our work is directed at the range of technologies, goods and services that minimize the impact on our environment and explore the corporate response to climate change, so it made sense to reflect upon ways we could be mindful of our own office impact. The Keep Guernsey Green initiative seemed like a natural step toward this goal,” he said.

Possession of the award demonstrates to clients, our people and business partners that the firm actively plans its energy conservation and waste management. By raising staff awareness of the importance of environmental issues, Ernst & Young has committed to regularly monitoring procurement and seeking to improve ways of managing the office’s energy and waste.

“Moving to the new Royal Chambers offices in St Julian’s Avenue in 2009 provided us with an opportunity to reduce our environmental impact. We had a number of initiatives already underway and have added lighting sensors, recycling bins and installing devices that measure the office’s energy usage,” Mr Dann said.

Jenny Tasker, Deputy Minister of the Environment Department said; "We are pleased Ernst & Young has taken part in this initiative and congratulate them on this award.  By encouraging and meeting the requirements in areas such as policy and planning, action, review and improvement, many companies are able to identify areas where energy can be saved and waste to landfill reduced.   We are grateful that firms such as Ernst & Young is educating its staff and clients about the progress that can be made by such small, but significant changes."
