Richard Carey

Partner, Taxation

Richard is primarily responsible for the Tax group in the Christchurch office, and also plays a wider leadership role in the office. He has historically been a member of the New Zealand firm’s board of partners. Richard has many years of corporate tax advisory expertise in New Zealand, and has played key advisory roles in structuring major business transactions. Richard has substantial commercial legal experience and Board of Directors experience.

Previous experience

Richard is responsible for managing EY’s delivery of services to a wide spectrum of clients, ranging from private enterprises to public listed companies, large state-owned enterprises and large co-operatives. Richard has specific advisory responsibility for clients in the mining, exploration and extractive energy sectors. In addition Richard has experience in many industry sectors including manufacturing, services, primary, distribution and tourism.

Credentials

Richard is a Member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and is also a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. Richard holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws (University of Canterbury)

Interests

Richard enjoys gardening, snow skiing, windsurfing and spending time at his house in the Marlborough Sounds.
