Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards Director Jon Hooper said this year's finalists are people who have held fast to their dreams despite challenging economic times.
“To become a finalist in these Awards, entrepreneurs must display leadership, creativity, business acumen, perseverance, and an unflinching determination to succeed. This year’s finalists have shown they have all of that and more. The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards recognises and celebrates these people, their substantial achievements, and their contribution to our society and to our economy,” says Hooper.
“Entrepreneurs are passionate, disciplined, and hard working people. They face setbacks and hardship like any other New Zealander, but they have unique qualities that set them apart,” says Hooper. “They never give up. They are resilient and resourceful. They have the ability to capitalise on ideas that create employment and lift productivity,” he said.
“We wish each of the finalists all the best in the coming months as category winners are chosen, and the overall winner is selected by the judges.”
Category winners will be announced on Friday 11 September, and New Zealand’s 2009 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year will be announced at an award banquet on Thursday 22 October, 2009.
The overall winner will represent New Zealand, competing against entrepreneurs from more than 135 cities in 50 countries at the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year Awards in Monte Carlo in May 2010.
