Celebrating 10 years of world-class Filipino entrepreneurs

The SGV Foundation launched on February 21 the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Philippines 2013 program on the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) cable television show Mornings@ANC. This is the 10th anniversary of the program, that has recognized 141 men and women since 2003.

In celebration of its 10th year, the 2013 program selected the theme “Breaking Barriers.” Program Director, Atty. Antonette Tionko says, “Entrepreneurs are undaunted by what many might consider barriers -- poverty, lack of technology, geography, gender and many others. On the contrary, they are most likely challenged by these and motivated to rise above them. As true entrepreneurs, they embolden themselves to strengthen their will, generate innovative ideas and gather the resources needed to transform hurdles into opportunities.”

Former winners Jaime Ayala (Entrepreneur Of The Year Philippines 2012), Jose Victor Paterno (Master Entrepreneur 2012), Tommanny Tan (Emerging Entrepreneur 2012) and Marvin Agustin (Young Entrepreneur 2012) were present to promote the program. Several of last year’s finalists also attended the launch in a show of support, including Amelia Manas of Bruno’s Services Corporation, Carolina Osteria of ACM Landholdings, and Nelson and Siu Ping Par of PR Gaz Haus.

During the launch, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the SGV Foundation and its co-presenters, namely: the Department of Trade and Industry, the Philippine Business for Social Progress, the Philippine Stock Exchange, the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, and the University of the Philippines College of Business Administration.

Since its inception in 2003, the Entrepreneur Of The Year Philippines program has become one of the most prestigious events for the local business community. The program will run for more than nine months, from the nomination period to selection, judging, and finally the awarding of winners in October.

The search is open to all Filipino entrepreneurs. To be eligible, a nominee has to be a Filipino business owner or founder who is primarily responsible for the growth of his or her company. The nominee must still be active in business, which must have been in operation for at least two years. A completed nomination form, audited financial statements and other documents are required for a nomination to be considered for further judging. Nominations will be accepted until May 31, 2013.

There will be four award categories for this year: Master Entrepreneur, Small Business Entrepreneur, Social Entrepreneur, and Woman Entrepreneur. From among these category winners will emerge the Entrepreneur Of The Year Philippines 2013, who will represent the country in the 2014 World Entrepreneur Of The Year awards in Monte Carlo, Monaco in June 2014.
