During a public debate organised by the Ernst & Young Better Government Programme on the 20 October 2009 Dr Darek Klonowski presented the results of his research into the innovativenes of the Polish SME sector "Innovation in Polish SME sector. Government support programmes and the liquidity gap". The author demonstrates the presence of a liquidity gap on the market, which is a result of the disparate needs of the SMEs in Poland and the financial offering of the capital markets and the banking sector. His analysis centres on the possibility of government support mechanisms filling the gap.

Dr Darek Klonowski is a Full Professor of Business Administration at Brandon University, Canada.  He has worked in the venture capital industry for over almost years, making investments throughout Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), most notably at Enterprise Investors and Copernicus Capital Management (now Abris Capital Partners).  Dr. Klonowski also advised multiple clients on asset allocation strategies in the CEE region.  He has participated in numerous industry conferences as guest speaker and discussion panel member.  He has written extensively on entrepreneurship and venture capital in the CEE region.
