Karl Johansson is CIS Sub-Area Managing Partner. In his role, he focuses on the development of Ernst & Young's business in the CIS and coordinates the further expansion of its practice.
Karl Johansson joined Ernst & Young Minneapolis, Minnesota, after completing his BA from the University of Minnesota (1972) and his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania (1975). From 1995 to 2000, Karl was the Managing Partner of Ernst & Young CIS based in Moscow, Russia. Karl served as Global Vice Chair of Tax and member of the Global Practice Council. He also worked in China to assist in the development and expansion of Ernst & Young China. He returned to Moscow in July 2006 as Ernst & Young CIS Managing Partner.
Karl has significant experience in serving multinational accounts and the senior executives of these accounts. He has coordinated international tax engagements, mergers and acquisitions, and due diligence projects in key global markets.
Karl actively participates in the activities of the Foreign Investment Advisory Council in Russia and also in large scale multilateral initiatives and events focused on improving investment climate in Russia.
Karl has been advisor to the Economist Group for Central and Eastern Europe and a member of the Foreign Investors’ Councils of Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Latvia.
