Award ceremony of the Path to Career contest will be held on 21 April

Moscow, 16 April 2014. The award ceremony for the winners of the Path to Career contest will be held on 21 April 2014 at the EY office in Moscow. The contest organizers will present the names of the winners, who will have an opportunity to apply for internships in leading Russian and international companies. Registration is required for all participants. 

The Path to Career contest was established by the Russian organization Perspektiva and the Business Council for Disability Issues to assist people with disabilities in overcoming obstacles during the recruitment process and help them to integrate into the business environment. 

Tatyana Savenkova, EY Russia HR Director, said: “Nowadays, more and more companies hire people with disabilities. However, the quantity of people with disabilities who still don’t have a job remains high. For many years we have been doing our best to develop initiatives that help people with disabilities to integrate into the business environment. In particular, we hold a training specifically tailored to helping these people develop their teamwork skills. We’re very glad to hold the contest this year and will assist our participants in their professional development.” 

Lately, more and more companies have been hiring people with disabilities, according to the latest survey released by HeadHunter, which was the first Russian recruiting agency to launch a service specifically created to allow employers to mark vacancies that are suitable for people with disabilities. 

Marina Khadina, HeadHunter’s Career Service Line Leader, said: “About 22,738 vacancies for people with disabilities were placed on hh.ru during the first quarter of 2014. That is about 4.5% of all published vacancies, whereas previously it was only about 1%. About 73% of the vacancies are for people with disabilities who have less than one year of work experience, 20% are for those who have from one to three years of work experience and only 7% are for those who have more than three years of experience. We can definitely say there has been a breakthrough in employers’ attitudes toward people with disabilities and there are a lot of new opportunities for those who want to develop their career. Also, it is extremely pleasant to say that we have already had a lot of job offers for this year’s contest participants from companies participating in the contest. This year, three contests will be held, one of which will be in Nizhny Novgorod.” 

Thanks to initiatives like the Path to Career contest, which are introducing new views on people with disabilities, many companies have become more open-minded toward these people and are now ready to hire them. 

Denis Rosa, Director of Perspectiva, said: “The Path to Career contest has become one of most important initiatives of the Business Council for Disability Issues. Our aim is to introduce another view on people with disabilities to employers, and this view describes these people as talented and highly motivated professionals. The contest was established in 2007. More than 80 people have taken part in it and about 60 eventually found a job.” 

The Path to Career contest seeks to fulfill employers’ expectations. For many years KPMG has been a project partner. 

Darya Solovieva, KPMG HR Director, said: “KPMG has supported ‘Path to Career’ for many years. We actively develop new competition formats, help prepare contestants for the event and sit on the jury. More importantly, though, KPMG provides real training and employment opportunities for young people with disabilities. Indeed, this annual contest not only supports the most successful participants by recognizing their efforts and aspirations, it also serves as a good indicator of the readiness of the business to start this vital public dialogue.”
