There are many different formulae for the right career.

If you’re focused on a career in accountancy at a firm like ours and further academic study is for you, then you should think about the EY Degree.

The EY Degree provides a path into university studies, a paid placement in Assurance and a professional qualification – all thanks to our unique partnership with Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) and ICAS.

As well as promising fast progress to a professional qualification, the EY Degree also offers a first year bursary to help you get started at university, plus 18 months of paid work experience. During the four-year accountancy degree course, you’ll study for some of your ICAS examinations during your degree and during your work experience, before completing your final three exams when you join us after graduation. It’s a great way to start your business career with EY.

Your starting point

Starting your journey on the EY Degree is the same as any other course. Visit the UCAS website to apply and enter course code NN43 or search for BSc/AccE&Y to find the EY Degree.

Your development

The EY Degree opens up a path that you wouldn’t find with any other degree course. LUMS was awarded the Business School of the Year in 2012 is consistently ranked highly throughout the world. What’s more, you’ll have the chance to put what you learn on your course to the test in the real world of business, and make useful business contacts along the way.

The course structure

Your 18 months paid work experience with EY will be split into three placements.

Your first year is at Lancaster University studying three modules in different management school departments: Accounting and Finance, Economics and Management Science. These modules comprise

Year 1

Autumn, Spring and Summer Terms

Introduction to Accounting and Finance, Principles of Economics and Quantitative Methods

End of Year


Your second year of the degree combines a three-month paid placement with EY (January to March) sandwiched by two terms at Lancaster. Your time at Lancaster will be spent focusing on the following six modules, of which AC.F222 is taken in the September preceding your second year:

Autumn Term

  • Introduction to Management Accounting
  • Accounting Information Systems and Auditing
  • Principles of Finance
  • Principles of Financial Accounting
  • Introduction to Statistical Business Methods for Business
  • Business Law

Spring Term

Your third year involves a full one year placement with EY. During this period you will also complete a written dissertation and sit the following two ICAS professional examinations:

  • Assurance and Business Systems
  • Advanced Finance
Year 3

Autumn, Spring and Summer Terms

EY placement (12 months)

  • Includes two ICAS Test of Professional Skills, ICAS examinations and a complete written dissertation

Your fourth year is back at LUMS, where you’ll be able to choose some of the modules you wish to study. You’ll also do a final three-month placement from January to March.

The work experience

As part of the EY Degree, you’ll spend a total of 18 months on placement at an EY office in the UK. The experience is valuable: you’ll play a key role in our audit business, working with clients and people at all levels of the company.

It’ll give you a great understanding of life in a professional services firm, leaving you well prepared for the start of your career.

During the one-year placement you’ll sit two of the four Test of Professional Skills ICAS examinations, and complete a written dissertation.

During your placement you’ll play a key role in an audit team, working directly with clients and alongside people at all levels in our company. The majority of our placements are based in our London office. If things go well you could get a job offer in your third year – leaving you free to concentrate on your degree.

Your future

When you finish university, you’ll leave with more than just a BSc (Hons) in Accounting, Auditing and Finance. You’ll have a head start in business – with the skills to progress fast in a world-class professional services firm like EY. Not to mention professional exam passes too. In addition to your degree you’ll join the second year of our graduate programme – making faster progress towards professional qualification (up to 15 months earlier) and putting you on course to achieve your potential.

Entry qualifications

First things first – you’ll need Grade B or higher in GCSE Mathematics and English Language and a predicted AAB in your A Levels, or equivalent (not including General Studies or A2 re-sits).


Starting your journey towards the EY Degree is the same as any other course. Visit the UCAS website to apply and enter course code NN43 or search for BSc/AccE&Y to find the EY Degree. Once you’ve applied, LUMS will screen your UCAS application and you’ll be asked to complete a short online EY application form. After you have submitted your application you’ll need to complete an online strengths assessment and we will test your numerical, verbal and abstract reasoning skills. You could then be invited to an assessment centre at our London office. If you do well and meet the degree requirements, we’ll make you an offer.
