Ernst & Young named top gay-friendly employer in the country
London, 11 January 2012: Ernst & Young has today been named as Stonewall’s Employer of the Year in the 2012 Stonewall Workplace Equality Index, which showcases the UK’s top 100 public and private sector employers for gay, lesbian, and bisexual staff.
The professional services firm moved up from the third place it achieved last year to poll position in the national benchmark. Ernst & Young also topped Stonewall’s inaugural ‘Global Best Practice Index’.
Ernst & Young’s success has been attributed to a number of progressive initiatives, which include the firm’s leading role in the development of the concept of inclusive leadership, sponsorship of National Student Pride, engagement with clients about sexual orientation as a workplace issue, and strong leadership driven from the top.
In addition to being recognised as a leading employer, Ernst & Young’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender network, EYGLES, was again named as one of Stonewall’s ‘Star Performer Network Groups’.
Liz Bingham, Ernst & Young’s Managing Partner for People said: "To say we are thrilled and proud to be named Stonewall’s 2012 Employer of the Year is truly an understatement. We believe that a strong commitment to diversity and inclusiveness is not only important for our people, but is also good business in an increasingly competitive and interconnected world."
Harry Gaskell, Managing Partner for Advisory and Head of Diversity and Inclusiveness at Ernst & Young added: "Being named the 2012 Employer of the Year is an achievement that we're very proud of. I'm really happy with the great progress the firm has made since it first entered the Workplace Equality Index in 2005 and look forward to continuing to champion diversity and inclusiveness in 2012."
