New EY UK public sector audit business welcomes 150 new joiners through its doors
London 12 November 2012: EY has officially welcomed 150 former Audit Commission employees after winning public sector audits in the East and South of England.
The firm was appointed auditor to 153 new public sector clients in September following the process by the Audit Commission to outsource the work of its in-house practice to the private sector. Staff of the Audit Commission in these regions have been transferred under TUPE, and will join the new public sector audit team.
Part of the success of the firm in winning the competitive tender was its reputation for offering all employees opportunities, promotion of diversity, values and career progression. The firm was named Employer of the Year 2012 in Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index and has set an aspirational goal that at least 30% of all our new UK partners are women and at least 10% are BME by 2015.
Hywel Ball, EY UK&I Assurance Managing Partner said: "I am really pleased to welcome our new specialist Government and Public Sector Audit professionals to EY. These additional specialist public sector audit skills open up a much larger public sector audit market for us. We understand the enormous importance of public sector audit work to society - the role of audit and accountability has never been more important and our overriding focus will be making sure that our clients, and tax payers, are delivered the highest standards.”
Former Audit Commission District Auditor Maria Grindley who has joined EY as a Director, said: "We are very excited to be joining EY. I believe that the skills and knowledge that we bring coupled with the approach, tools and services EY has to offer will provide our clients with an excellent service."
"Over the last two years our teams have continued to provide good quality and professional audits and have focussed on adding value to the client through the core audit. Once we have joined EY our clients will benefit from the assurance services on offer which will help us to respond to their wider business needs."
