Patrick Stevens, EY tax partner, commented:

"The Government has announced a tax relief to encourage investment in Social Enterprise. We are still waiting for the details, but the nature of the relief will be interesting. There is an existing set of tax reliefs to encourage the investment in small business (Enterprise Investment Scheme etc) and another encouraging gifts to charity (Gift Aid). Social enterprises will need to decide whether they are tax favoured investments or charitable entities when they talk to Government."
