At Ernst & Young we are well placed to support trustees, scheme sponsors, and administrators with a wide range of assurance and pensions advisory services. We have provided brief details of the main services by practice area, but it should be noted that engagements frequently require specialists in our different disciplines to work together to provide a comprehensive solution.
Our assurance practice focuses on pension scheme audits for trustees. In the pensions arena it is also engaged in delivering governance and risk reviews, compliance reviews and internal audit services, control reviews of third party and in-house administrators, and trustee training.
The covenant advisory team specialises in providing advice to pension trustees and corporate clients around the structure and strength of the employer covenant which supports the pension obligations. This advice is usually requested when triennial scheme valuations fall due or when significant corporate activity impacts on the sponsor.
Our pensions actuaries help corporate clients in the management of the costs and risks associated with their defined benefit pension schemes. We advise on de-risking balance sheets, and assist companies in reaching agreement with the trustees on the level of cash contributions, and use of alternative forms of support (such as parent guarantees or escrow accounts). Actuarial advice is frequently also required in corporate transactions, be it a company sale, acquisition or restructuring.
