Welcome!

The latest Ernst & Young Strategic Growth Forum event took place in March 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Africa is on a fast-growth journey: over the past decade, the continent's economic output has more than doubled, and six of the ten fastest growing economies in the world were African. South Africa's recent membership of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) group and also of the G20, has also marked the region as one to watch. The exciting developments in Africa are creating a business environment rich with opportunities, and the continent was therefore an obvious choice for this prestigious Ernst & Young Strategic Growth Forum.

The two-day event convened CEOs, leading entrepreneurs, investors, industry experts and government officials; all with a passion for unlocking value in Africa and ensuring that Africa achieves her fullest potential. The event was an unparalleled opportunity to meet valuable contacts — potential customers and partners —, to learn more about the issues facing business in Africa, and to hear inspiring stories from some of Africa's most successful business people. The themes addressed were of particular relevance to companies keen to capitalise on the growth opportunities Africa offers, including: where the opportunities are emerging; key challenges of doing business across the continent; innovative ways of doing business that are unique to Africa; and how to effectively access and manage capital for growth in the region.

The Forum also provided an exclusive networking opportunity to connect with like-minded business leaders from Africa and around the world. Uniquely, the Forum gave attendees the opportunity to build their own personal agenda and meeting schedule, including private breakfasts, additional lunch sessions and private meetings with investors, keynote speakers and others in their sector. There was also a chance to seek out other perspectives and ideas, on a more personal level at the gala dinner.

We were delighted that Lewis Gordon Pugh, OIG, was our closing speaker. He was the first person to swim in the North Pole and was appointed to help improve the mind-set of the South African Springbok rugby team in preparation for the 2011 Rugby World Cup,. Lewis spoke about the power of the mind to overcome obstacles, and ended the Forum on a hight by inspiring us all to think beyond the possible.

Sincerely,

Ajen Sita  Andrea Vogel
